About 485 Cassidy Wharf Rd
Presenting Money Point Farm. This Sassafras River waterfront sportsman's farm providing many desirable habitat types and existing infrastructure to maintain and manage a high-quality Eastern Shore of Maryland wildlife farm. This farm is strategically located to capitalize on the annual delivery of wintering waterfowl. This region of the Bay is where early season waterfowl first enter the Chesapeake and where late season birds stay around due to the amount of open water maintained on the big rivers surrounding the Susquehanna Flats. Outside of the ecological value the Farm offers to waterfowl and wildlife, it also calls back to another era of agriculture and life on the Chesapeake. Money Point Farm is located on Grove Neck in Cecil County and is one of a handful of larger properties on the neck. It has significant waterfront and represents one of the more unique waterfront farms proffered in recent years. The Farm offers 418.6 +/- acres by deed, with an abundance of shoreline. It has been protected from development with placement of conservation easements. The farm size in the Grove Neck area makes it similar to other large tracts in this part of Cecil County. What makes Money Point intrinsically different and more important from a wildlife perspective is its orientation amidst three water bodies. The Eastern boundary is created almost in full by the headwater marshes of Cox Creek. The Southern boundary is made up primarily by the Sassafras River. The Western shoreline is bounded by Money Creek where its grass bed flats and inland marsh provide critical cover out of the dominate Northwest winter wind. The combining effect of the wetland habitats which make up the boundary lines of Money Point Farm is only part of the story. The interior of the Farm is managed with 5 waterfowl impoundments, most equipped with water control structures and the capability of managing water with wells to put water on the land to provide seasonally flooded cropland for wintering waterfowl. The interior location of these shallow ponds between the natural flyways between Money Creek, Cox Creek and the Sassafras is strategic wildlife management. While the waterfowl habitats interior to the Farm create simple “in and out” style duck hunts, the pure waterfowler can wrangle the elements on the Sassfrass River or one of the creeks where large shoreline blinds have been built and used over the years as well. Clearly, a range of management and waterfowl hunting strategies can be employed at Money Point. While the interior waterfowl habitats create feeding, resting and staging areas for waterfowl, the freshwater on the Farm is also important to upland wildlife like deer and wild turkey. Fresh water and cover from predators are key components to a wildlife manager’s strategy. The upland component of the Farm is further improved by 7 raised deer blinds around the property which provide well-designed whitetail hunting with a patchwork of food plots complementing the location of each blind. The wildlife corridors available to deer and turkey to move north-south and east-west throughout the Farm will create hunting opportunities throughout the season and in almost any weather scenario. The rustic Lodge structure is an early twentieth century period-built home with minimal updates since the 1960’s but it has served the current owner well in its function as a place to connect with friends and family. The “knotty pine” paneling of the lodge gives character and context to the hunting tales or “hunting lies” told each night. Riding or walking the Farm, it is easy to respect the amount of time and energy invested in caring for and conserving the integrity of Money Point Farm. This farm is a wildlife and outdoor enthusiasts’ playground. Words can hardly provide adequate meaning to convey the natural beauty of the landand it's history.
