It’s the perfect time of year to take a day trip!  We’ve selected some locations that are less than two hours away sure to make your weekend memorable. 

 

 

Calvert Cliffs State Park

Address:10540 H. G Trueman Road Lusby, MD 

Description:The massive cliffs, from which Calvert Cliffs State Park was named, dominate the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay for roughly 24 miles in Calvert County. They were formed over 10 to 20 million years ago when all of Southern Maryland was covered by a warm, shallow sea. When the sea receded the cliffs were exposed and began eroding. Today these cliffs reveal the remains of prehistoric species, including sharks, whales, rays and seabirds that were the size of small airplanes. 

Attrractions: sandy beach, unique fossils, an accessible recycled tire playground, fishing, a freshwater and tidal marshland and 13 miles of hiking trails.

Chesapeake City

Address: Located off I95

Description: Chesapeake City is the only town in Maryland that is situated on a working commercial canal. Most of its interesting 19th-century architecture remains intact, and the area that encompasses it on the south bank has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Attrractions: Unique shops, restaurants, C&D canal trail, Brewery and vineyard, Canal Museum, Pell Gardens and Water Tours,

Longwood Garden

Address:1001 Longwood Road, Kennett Square, PA 19348

Description: Longwood Gardens is a botanical garden that consists of over 1,077 acres of gardens, woodlands, and meadows. 

Attrractions: Conservatory, Pierce DuPont house, fountain garden and many other stunning botanical attractions.

Harpers Ferry

Address: 171 Shoreline Drive, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425

Description: Harpers Ferry is a town in West Virginia. Paths wind through Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, which has 19th-century buildings, a Civil War Museum and John Brown’s Fort.The Appalachian Trail

Plumpton Park Zoo

Description: A fascinating country zoo in a lovely peaceful setting. The zoo has over 250 animals including a beautiful Siberian tiger, zebras, giraffes, monkey, cougar, camels, deer, and more.
